Darn, I just missed seeing Colin Mochrie. Apparently he stopped by the Comic Book Shoppe 2 yesterday around when I was there.
So, yeah, Otakon last weekend. I took pictures for once. It was great seeing people again, meeting
sarahtheboring, talking shop with
jescaflowne and
luffymonkey and stuff. My video at Otakon is online now. (already!)
Some notes on the con:
- I read an article about hotel concierges on the plane going down. One concierge had an Arab sheik ask him for a pink elephant. Thinking he meant a toy, the concierge said sure. The sheik then said, "You can really get a real elephant?" Uh oh. But it turned out that the circus was in town, so the concierge called the SPCA and asked if he could safely paint an elephant. They said as long as he used water-soluble paint and didn't paint certain areas, he could. So he rented one from the circus, painted it, and the sheik got his pink elephant. :)
- Plane was 3 hours late getting in. US$30 taxi instead of $1.60 light rail (service had ended for the day) sucked. The cab driver said "taxi is always better". *laugh*
- Corbo Bash ending early due to evil hotel also sucked. But it was good while it lasted. :)
- I went to the "Best of AMV" showing. (selected AMVs from Otakon's 1998-2002 contests) It started with Ranma Kombat. *blush* The showing reminded me of how good 2001 was.
- I got the HoiHoi figure I wanted on the first try. (random, 1 out of 6) </a></b></a>
bought 6 from another set, and didn't get either of the 2 he wanted. :D
- In the dealer's room, I had bent down to look at some artbooks in a box on the floor. I had flipped through most of them when I heard a voice behind me say, "And how old are we?" It turned out they were H-game artbooks... I was just reading the titles looking for what I wanted, and didn't see anything indicating what they were. (any pictures I saw on the covers were clean) That explains why I didn't recognise the titles. Anyway, when I got up, the dealer said I had youthful looking hair. :P (to explain why he thought I might be underage yada yada)
- Sitting waiting for the first AMV contest showing to start, I heard the guy next to me that was reading the ballot say "Doki Doki Productions? I'm voting for that one, I don't have to see it." I told him the video wasn't that good. ;) (hey, it didn't win, right?)
- Ran into Gene (I think that's his name) of AN Entertainment in the dealer's room. I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I was supposed to do a video for the Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety DVD. Unfortunately, my contract with ADV for the Noir video had a non-competition clause, so it didn't work out. (the RS song was hella long, too)
- I saw a T-shirt that said "Work bad. Video games good." Isn't that a paradox? (for me :)
This weekend was filled with birthday celebrations for
awnyer (yay! boo for LaserQuest cheaters! :P) and going to the Ex today. It's gone downhill. I haven't gone in several years, but wanted to see what it's like these days since I used to do volunteer work for one booth when I was younger.
